About Laureate

Laureate Community Academy is based in Newmarket (Suffolk), catering for the needs of children aged from 3 to 11 years old (Nursery to Year 6).

Originally named Exning Road Primary School, the school name later changed to Laureate Community Primary School, which originates from Laureate II - a racehorse owned by Mr James Hammond. On the 1st July 2016 the school became Laureate Community Academy. The main part of the building was built in 1900, on land originally belonging to the Hammond Stud, and still holds many of its original features. However, we have extended and developed the school a lot in recent years, to cater for our pupils in addition to encouraging and supporting their development. We now have more classrooms, an ICT suite, a small teaching room, a library, and a separate, purpose-built nursery with a modern outdoor learning environment, designed to encourage and develop children’s education in a fun and enjoyable setting.

Laureate is recognised as a National Healthy School, and we continually educate, encourage and support all of our children in living healthy lifestyles through eating, physical activity, emotional well-being and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education). This contributes significantly in providing all our children with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to make decisions about being and staying safe, while enjoying and achieving in what they do.

The Curriculum taught in school is laid down by the Government, referred to as 'The National Curriculum.' And, while catering for over 200 pupils, we are proud to be represented by children from many different countries, cultural backgrounds and languages throughout all of our year groups. We believe that no child should be excluded or disadvantaged because of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, disability, special educational needs, gender or ability, and have a dedicated team of teaching staff to ensure all of our children are fully supported in helping them to progress as much as possible during their time at Laureate.
