Important Update Regarding Face Coverings

You will probably be aware that the Government has announced that, from Monday 17th May, face coverings will no longer be recommended for pupils or staff in classrooms. However, their guidance also states that ‘we continue to recommend that face coverings should be worn by staff and visitors in situations outside of classrooms’ and that ‘the reintroduction of face coverings for pupils, students or staff may be advised for a temporary period in response to particular localised outbreaks’.

There has been a number of COVID-19 outbreaks in local schools this term, including two schools in our multiacademy trust, Unity Schools Partnership, which has not only resulted in ‘bubbles’ having to be closed for ten days (which, of course, has an impact on pupils’ learning) but has also led to COVID-19 testing units having to be set up in school playgrounds to provide additional tests for the community. We feel that is it too soon to relax the precautions that have protected our pupils, families and staff so successfully over the past year, and so we continue to expect all adults and secondary aged pupils to wear a face covering when moving around the school site, particularly at the beginning and end of the school day.
